Heartland Data Breach

A security breach at the Heartland Payment Systems, a credit card processor,  has prompted The First National Bank of Monterey to block current cards and reissue new cards.  Customers affected will receive a letter from FNBM.

Hearland processes credit card transactions for over 250,000 merchants at a rate of over 100 million transactions per month.  Over the last nine to ten months, some of our customers have transacted business with some of those merchants.

Once we receive notice, as a security precaution to our customers, our policy and the Industry Standard is to close the Debit Card, send the affected customer a letter explaining the process, and reissue a new Debit Card.  Within 1 to 2 weeks, the affected customer will receive a new Debit Card with a new number and PIN.

Heartland Payment Systems has set up a website to provide information...www.2008breach.com and advises cardholders to examine their monthly statements for suspicious activity and report any to their financial institution.
